Another 'Coffee with a Councilor' coming up

It's not something you normally think about when it's raining hard and there's a threat of flooding but state officials want to remind folks about how important it is to secure hazardous materials so they don't make it into our waterways. Come see a presentation on exciting progress toward acquiring a community center for Damascus, and hear about some of our other exciting projects as well!  The Committee for the Future of Damascus (CFD), a nonprofit grass-roots organization dedicated to helping citizens make Damascus more sustainable, will be holding its annual meeting of members on Tuesday January 24, 2012 at 7 PM in the cafeteria of the Christ the Vine Lutheran Church, 18677 SE Highway 212, Damascus, OR 97089. Although you do not need to be a member to attend, WE WELCOME YOU TO JOIN! Membership applications may be submitted online via the website, www.sustainabledamascus.org, or if preferred, you may complete a printed application form at the meeting.  After the community center presentation, the board will briefly report on the CFD’s activities and financial condition and then the members will nominate and vote on the seven directors to the board for the 2012 term.  We hope to see you there!

Thousands lose power across the metro area

Here's the latest update from PGE (as of 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 18):

PGE crews continue to make progress restoring power to customers who have lost power due to weather-related outages. As of 3 p.m., PGE currently has 16,600 customers without power. Hardest hit areas are in higher elevations. At peak this morning, PGE had 30,000 customers without power. Crews will work around the clock to restore power. PGE urges the public to stay away from downed lines.

Town Hall meeting is Saturday

The city's Town Hall Meeting is Saturday, Jan. 14 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. It'll be held at Hillsview Community Church.
